Weekly Goal and Reflection

This week I hope to finish my key's bow shape. I also want to start on the bottom of the key and form the bit.

Reflection: This week I mostly got my bow done. I just need to add a couple of things to it so it will retain it's shape.

Weekly Goal and Reflection

I am going to try to get an drawing done of my key by the end of this week. I also hope to sketch out some other ideas for an illustration.

Reflection:I got myself a finished drawing. I started on my maya sculpting as well. I will post a progress picture next week because I want to get further along.

Proposal

While I am trying to think of something to illustrate I will do another project in the meantime. I am going to make a key and print it out at Shapeways. I plan for it to be a skeleton key. Some of my ideas for it are a little complicated so I'm trying to iron that out. I plan to have a sketch done next week and start on it around then. It will be done in Maya.

1/17/12 Weekly Goal And Reflection

This week I am going to practice some more tutorials and post my progress on them.

Reflection:

I sort of failed this week. I tried to draw an eye but that didn't turn out too good. I did do a bubble tutorial. It looks terrible.

Week Reflection and Progress

I am mostly just taking on tutorials and seeing how far I can take them. Eventually I want to be able to speed paint. I got some fire done just to see if I can do it.

Inspirations

Deviantart: ~valerie-haru

Tomer Hanuka

Phoenix Feng

Deviant art: ~b1nd1

My favorite pieces are Tomer Hanuka's. I really like the colors and the story telling. His type of shading is also uniquely awesome! He also tends to keep the colors through his pieces the same. This brings the eyes through the piece to colors that may be slightly different. His pieces are dreamlike. The colors, movement, and content of the pieces are like a flowing dream. There is so much to see in one piece. He is also very in depth with the colors and sketches. He can make up to fifty sketches and 200 layers of individual colors in photoshop. His colors seem to share a same tone throughout one piece. His pieces are even more unique because he creates suspense and drama by not drawing exactly what is happening, but the moment before or the aftermath. Many of his pieces are novel commissions, which I enjoy because I would like to do some book cover art or small illustrations for the works.

I want to make something that is abstract, yet it is directed. I am going to try to just paint in Photoshop. While I am not sure about what the subject will be about, I will continue to look at my inspirational pieces and others.

Photoshop Painting

I've done drawings and colored them in photoshop before, but I never just straight up used photoshop. I think I am going to give that a try and do a photoshop painting/illustration.
